A new anthology of MHI stories, from the Czech Republic!

Man, I’m announcing all sorts of cool stuff this week. 😀

https://www.baen.com/monster-hunter-fantom.html

Here is a whole new anthology of MHI stories, and some background-

This is a pretty unique thing to have happen as an author. My MHI series is translated into a bunch of languages and published in different countries. It has been really popular in the Czech Republic. (Coolest book signings I’ve ever done have been in Prague!) Because of that I added a Czech monster hunting company into the series, and they showed up as background characters. (Fantom, which is also the real life name of the publishing house) And the series is so popular over there that my Czech publisher asked if they could do an anthology about these Czech hunters, by Czech authors, in Czech. I said that sounded awesome.

(and I wrote one for it, which they translated like they do my regular books) It came out in Czechia a couple of years ago, and my American fans got jealous because they couldn’t read it. So now by popular demand the anthology has been translated into English! I have got the coolest job.

As of right now I believe this is ebook only, though Jack is currently working on Audible.

  1. If you’re wondering the release date, the linked page says in in small print “full Ebook available 05/07/24”. Not sure why that wasn’t mentioned here.

    1. Weren’t you, others who comment here & Larry angry at Hollywood for not getting the proposed Monster Hunter right when he was in L.A. to see about the movie, as mentioned in a blog post from a few weeks ago? And, aren’t you all the ones who want to see the current movie industry destroyed because it’s too ‘woke’?

As is said in the theme song to the TV show Daria, ‘If I’m off, please correct.’

      1. Why are you constantly so fucking full of shit about quite literally everything? Like do you have to try to be that profoundly dishonest in all your dealings, or does it just come naturally to you?
        A. In that facebook post I was laughing at how ridiculously out of touch some producers were with their casting choices and how little they understood their audience.
        B. It’s a BIG fucking industry made up of tens of thousands of people. Some of their products are lazy phoned in shit. Some are woke propaganda nonsense. Some are great entertainment. Some are works of brilliant art. People can complain about the woke propaganda nonsense churn yet still desire quality products from that field of entertainment. Fucking DUH.
        C. If you are off? You are always fucking off. Like every fucking time. You are constantly so far off that it has to be on purpose because I don’t think it is possible for one man to be that consistently stupid in comprehending what other people say.
        D. Seriously. You keep showing up, offended, butt hurt, and reframing arguments in the dumbest fucking way imaginable. Find a new hobby. This one is sad.

        1. If I was offended, I’d indicate so, but my tone wasn’t offense, but bemusement (perhaps I should’ve seen if I could put the winkface emoji at the end of my comment.)

Thanks for the correction, but I’m not stupid, just commenting on what you said (and it looks as if you’re the offended one, not I. Do you need a tranquilizer?😉)

All the same, good luck with your anthology and its success in the Czech Republic.

          1. Hey, Dr. Fares, I’m still waiting for you to provide evidence supporting your claim that “[I] want to see the film industry destroyed because it is too ‘woke.’

            It’s been 48 days.

          2. Nice try at a “you sound angry” but you aren’t fooling anyone about how little you care, dipshit who keeps coming back to comment on really old blog posts. You’re back today in two ancient ones posting under two different names. Odds are I’m probably the only person who will see your idiotic posts and that’s just because I get an alert on the admin screen. And I don’t even remember what the topic was that you were bitching about on this one.

      2. I am no one’s spokesman, I represent no views other than my own. I don’t recall commenting on any particular posts about a Monster Hunter International film… But I can barely remember what I had for lunch yesterday, so it may have slipped my mind. If you could provide a link to my comment(s) about the issue, I’d appreciate the refresher.

However, as a cinephile, I’ve long made peace with the fact that most great films (esp. those of the Golden Age and New Hollywood periods) were usually made by people with whom I would have vehement disagreements about on political issues. It is only in a few very extreme cases (i.e., self-confessed child rapist Roman Polanski) that I cannot separate the art from the artist.

Life is a lot more relaxed if you don’t subject every person to an ideological purity test.

      3. It’s been forty days now, Dr. Fares. I’m still waiting for you to provide evidence to support your claim that “[I] want to see the film industry destroyed because it is too ‘woke.’”

          1. In what possible way does my referring to the popular colloquial name for a period of Hollywood’s history any sort of support for your claim that “[I] want to see the film industry destroyed because it is too ‘woke.’”?

C’mon man, you’ve had forty-nine days. Show us the evidence.

      4. We’re now at day 54, Dr. Fares, where is that evidence that “[I] want to see the film industry destroyed because it is too ‘woke.’?

      5. Dr. Fares… We’re now at day 89 since you accused me of claiming that I wanted to see the film industry destroyed. I’ve been waiting for you to provide some evidence to back that claim up. Please, share your findings with the rest of us

    2. Honestly, after Wheel of Prime, I’m okay if MHI never sees a screen, unless Larry has some benevolent benefactors that give him total control over everything. I can’t bear to see Hollyweird destroy and wokify another cherished books series again.

  2. With the new leaks showing that the CCP literally controls World Con and picks Hugo winners I can’t wait to read the “I was right” post.

    1. Xi Jinping like Putin, are friends of Klaus Schwab and the rest of the World Economic Forum

Klaus refers to Xi Jinping as “his excellency” and loves how the CCP rules their fiefdom as a model for the other “members of a wider community”

As far as I can tell, even Western Lefties are starting to have to admit that yeah….the Chinese are pretty F-Ed up people

What they won’t admit though, is that they helped empower them further by shutting down their own industries and sending all the jobs to places like China, let alone that the OrangeMan was warning people of the CCP years back

That said, the CCP has its own problems, it’s breaking down its own economy and culture and everyday life further on its own.

Funny that, it aims to control the rest of the world, but it makes the seeds of rebellion within its own borders.

They complain a lot about “Bai Lan” or “Let It Rot” being an attitude amongst its people, essentially complaining that they’re not participating in the rat race….yeah turns out they’re not that different from the decaying West in a lot of things

    2. clears throat

While the ultimate blame no doubt lies with the CCP, it is quite possible that they were not involved except by creating an aura of fear in which the people running Worldcon did the censorship to avoid running afoul of the CCP and decreasing their social credit scores and all that. (I read an article on the subject which quoted Kit Sun Cheah, whose idea it was)

  3. Very cool! I’ve been trying to learn the ancestral tongue so looked into the CZ version (I’m in the USA). I found this page in English on the publisher’s site: https://www.fantomprint.cz/fantom-us

TLDR: “If you are interested in getting a copy (or three!) of Monster Hunter Fantom, please let us know at
poradime@fantomprint.cz, where we can discuss further details.”

FYI, Amazon.cz directs to the German site and doesn’t seem to have it. So that isn’t an option.

  4. Is there any chance that this anthology will get a physical release at some point? Not big on ebooks, and besides I would.like to add it to my collection of Corriea books on my book shelf.

  5. Thats pretty dang cool fella an thank for sharing the details. I’m glad your work is getting the attention and legs it deserves as always.

  6. As a fan I’ve felt that MHI was the written equivalent of a fireball chasing someone down a hallway or over a cliff. If Hollywood can fuck that up it’s time to carpet bomb. They SHOULD be able to make a good series on autopilot.

    Doesn’t mean they will unfortunately.

    1. Ruining outrunning fireballs reminded me of Jedi Outcast’s first level. It has a puzzle where you can NOT outrun the fireball caused by destroying an object you have to destroy to complete the mission. Using a grenade to get a head start just BARELY avoids giving you enough time, so the player gets the idea it will work if done right instead of thinking they’re doing it wrong. Turns out you’re supposed to break a small vent and hide in there which the fireball just sorta ignores for no clear reason.

Unfortunately this sort of illlogic is actually pretty typical of the game’s “puzzle” design. It’s a shame because the actual gameplay is really, really good. Its sequel, Jedi Academy, thankfully ditches these “read the developer’s minds” segments in favor of more straightforward level design and really lets that awesome gameplay shine through.
