  1. My Portuguese great-grandfather also started a dairy farm in California, but it was more north in Sonoma.

At some point he put a ban on speaking Portuguese at home, which unfortunately, by the time I arrived had purged the language from my generation. Now I know only bad words in Portuguese. Like, really bad words.

However, the food tradition was still alive. Oh, the food. THE FOOD.

    1. My family did the same thing. My grandpa insisted his kids all speak English first and foremost. The Portuguese who came here and didn’t learn English really pissed him off. So my Dad was fluent but never spoke it to his kids, so I grew up not knowing it.

  2. BREAKING SAD PUPPY NEWS: EVIL LORD OF EVIL BEATS FARM ANIMALS WITH SHOVELS! HOW CAN YOU VOTE FOR ANYONE WHO SUPPORTS SUCH CRUELTY?!

    1. anyone who knows how when where and why to give a dairy cow a few whacks has my appreciation and sympathy. Cotton picking happens once a year milking is forever and ever (twice a day so it’s twice the pain). Slaves had it easy.

  3. Wow! An interview with Real Larry!

Straw Larry is such an asshole, I’m glad she got to talk to the real one.

  4. Awesome! I wonder if the fine folks who decided your wikipedia article should have more written about Sad Puppies than it does about…anything else…will bother looking at it? Maybe-naaaaaah! No chance. Still, I loved reading this, Larry, and your grandad sounds like a cool guy, especially if he was anything like Traveling Joe. 😉

  5. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t planning on reading SOTBS; the topic just didn’t sound like my thing. Then you had to go and say the main character is a cross between George Washington and The Punisher, so now I have to read it…

    1. Just lol, I was planning on reading it, but I was (in the fantasy world where I have the self control to wait before purchasing a Larry Correia work) pondering whether I should wait til the sequel came out, to spare my nails the torture. This simile has wrecked that, already unlikely, train of thought. George Washington and the Punisher? Oh my, yes. Those sample chapter were evil, BTW Larry! *scowl*

    2. I was already going to get it, but the whole cross between George Washington and the Punisher amped up the anticipation.

*Imagines GW accidentally chopping a cherry tree in half in process of beheading a zombie with an executioners axe*
