By popular request, one of the oddest, dumbest, weirdest Facebook threads ever has been cataloged by David Burkhead for your convenience. It all started out as a serious discussion before the election about what would happen if Mitt Romney defunded PBS.

And then I got involved. I started telling stories about Cookie Monster’s mercenary days, and it was all downhill from there:

Seriously. Go and read. It goes on for a bit before I jump in, and then a bunch of other guys catch on, and it just goes insanely downhill from there. The very end is boring stuff where people got back onto topic, but the middle part is hilarious.

That’s actually a pretty darn cool line up.

Many of my regular writer friends are there and it is always fun to hook up with them.

I’ve actually met Lou Ferrigno when I was working at SHOT Show. He’s a super nice guy. And he’s still huge. The hulk is still cut. Steve Argyle is one of my favorite artists, so that’s cool. Holy crap. Ray Park? The dude who you get for any movie where you need a bad ass martial artist to fly around an look awesome. Sweet. Richard Hatch. Awesome. Kevin Sorbo? Cool. Adam West and Burt Ward? Whoa…

And the lovely Mrs. Correia is still letting me go despite the fact that Tia Carrere is going to be there and I had a crush on her since I was in high school in 1991 because of Showdown in Little Tokyo. 🙂

Zach Hill is a good friend of mine. He’s a member of Writer Nerd Game Night and the guy behind http://minimumwagehistorian.com/ This is his first Minimum Wage Historian book.

Fearless is about badass women of history, and it is written in Zach’s funny, irrevereant, but actually educational Minimum Wage Historian sort of way. Zach is the guy you really wish could be your kid’s history teacher, as he makes it really interesting. I’m a history geek, so it saddens me to see how incredibly boring most history classes make it. History should be awesome.

To give you an idea of how cool Zach is, twice now my oldest daughter has been given a history assignment where she had to write a paper on a specific topic. Both times she let Zach know, and he went ahead and wrote the next article on Minimum Wage Historian about that very topic so she’d have a place to start. Besides, this was samurai and conquistadors, so it wasn’t exactly like Zach was put out, but come on. That’s cool.

The reason we’re Book Bombing Zach today is becasue he recently, suddenly, lost his job and he’s currently out of work and looking. He’s got a big interview in LA this week. So I figure by helping with the Book Bomb, we spread around a worthy, good, fun book, but we also put some royalty money into the pocket of a dude who is having a tough time.

For those of you new to Book Bombs, how it works is that you get as many people as possible to buy the book in the same day from Amazon. This causes the book to move up in their hourly recalculated sales rank. The higher we can make it go in the sales rank, the more books it will sell to other people as it turns up in searchs, and success breeds success.

If we can get the book into the top 10 list of various genres, then it really helps make the difference. Having never done a history book before, I have no idea what that market is like, so this will be interesting.

So I’d ask you, tell your friends, post the link of Facebook, Twitter, whatever. Zach’s a good writer, and he personally needs a boost, so you’re doing something nice for somebody, but you’re also getting a cool book out of the deal. And if you regularly read Minimum Wage Historian like many of my readers do, think of it as a tip jar!

I’ll be updating throughout the day as we make it go up and provide totally factual Zach Hill based trivia. The one problem is that over the last year, Amazon has tweaked their methods, so the spikes aren’t as sudden, so it usually takes a little bit before we start to see real progress.

Monster Hunter Challenge Coins, looking for feedback

So it is official, we will be doing Monster Hunter International challenge coins in a Kickstarter in the near future. You guys should be getting your MHI RPG books now, and once that’s all wrapped up I can do something different.

Right now we (as in me and my graphic arts and all around expert on stuff guy, Jack) are coming up with different designs and ideas. So I thought I would throw it out there to you guys. What are some of the coin designs and slogans you would like to see? Are there any lines from the books that you think would be particularly awesome?

I’ve never read any Steven Brust books. I’m going to have to remedy that!

EDIT: And apparently Brust is the OPPOSITE side of the political spectrum from me. That should tell you how screwed up SFWA has gotten.

EDIT 2: Agree or disagree on the issue, I’m at least glad people are paying attention. I for one fall into the camp of I think it is sad to see a potentially valuable organization turn into a joke.

Other people think that SFWA is fine the way it is, and thought terminating cliches and PC purges are the best way to run a trade org.

The part that strikes me as humorous is that half the people hear that and think, yeah, those silly people who think SFWA has problems, what a bunch of cavemen. And the other half listens to it and thinks, yep, good thing I didn’t bother to join/renew.
