This is another Warmachine universe project, but like the other ones I’ve done for them I tried to write it in a manner that you don’t need to be familiar with the setting to enjoy the story. For the Warmachine fans, I’m writing about Kell Bailoch hunting down a Kossite former Greylord on behalf of the Kayazy. To the non Warmachine people, this time around I’m writing about a well known professional sniper/assassin, who is hunting down a the equivelent of a Siberian wizard on behalf of the Russian mafia. 🙂

It came out yesterday and I’ve already gotten some comments from readers who haven’t read my other stuff that I must be a shooter. Why yes. Yes, I am.  🙂  Because it is all about taking the shot against this wizard, I had to hearken back to the fundamentals of precision rifle class my shop used to offer. Never taught that one myself. I wasn’t even close to good enough. I was a pistol instructor! Long range rifle is hard! 😀

And as an added bonus, there is a Howard Tayler story in this one too. Howard wrote a mystery involving the world’s best magical mechanic (because somebody needs to keep the giant steam powered fighting robots going!). So now you know you really want it.

I haven’t taken glamour shots for a while, so I’ve got a ton to post.

EDIT: Just to add for the non-mini painters, to give you a sense of scale the bases on these guys are about the size of a quarter.

My light box consists of two lamps with paper towels hanging over them, but I am afraid I have reached the end of my iPhone’s capability to take decent pictures. All of these look better in person, since my camera is killing most of the shading I put in, and it makes everything look gritty. I may have to break down and borrow Mrs. Correia’s Cannon and figure out how to actually take better pictures.

First is a character for the IKRPG I’m thinking about playing after we wrap up our WNGN L5R campaign.

This one is heavily kit bashed together using parts from several minis, a bunch of green stuff putty, pinning, cutting, Dremeling, etc, but it is worth it because nothing says awesome like an ogre with a gatling gun.

This next one is a test scheme for a Legion army for Warmachine. Plus I just felt like painting a monster. I went with a purple for the skin and dirty white for the plates.

And a quick note on the leaves on the bases. Those are from birch seed pods. They really do look like big fallen leaves though. It makes a cool effect.

These next two are also test color schemes for another Warmachine army, Retribution.

And this ‘jack, which I painted once, then totally screwed up when I accidentally grabbed the can of white spray primer instead of the matte clear coat. So at that point I was frustrated and used it as an experiment in painting dirt and grime. The legs actually look extremely cool with all the mud caked on.

Swords is the sequel to Dead Six. If you’ve not read Dead Six, you really should, because it is a great book. It’s weird. This series is by far my least well known, but that’s because I’m known as a fantasy writer, and D6 is shelved off by itself in fiction with the thrillers. So read Dead Six, because it is excellent. I promise that you’ve never read another coauthored book like this one. It is like dueling banjos, but with guns.

Today we are going to be Book Bombing my longtime friend Peter Grant’s non-fiction work, Walls, Wire, Bars, and Souls.

For those of you who are new to Book Bombs, that’s where  we pick an author who we think needs a signal boost, and then try to get as many people as possible to go and purchase their book on the same day. This causes the book to spike in the ratings. The higher we get the book on the various Amazon top 20 lists, the more people see it, the more people buy it, and success breeds success. The goal at the end of a Book Bomb is to have sold a bunch of books for an author, which means he GETS PAID (remember writers, that should be in your mission statement) but more importantly, it helps them get a bunch of new fans.

Many of you may know Peter as Preacherman from various gun forums. Peter is now a science fiction author and his first two books are out. (You should check those out while you’re there too. I’ve read the first one and it is really good) He’s also the man behind Bayou Renaissance Man, which you will probably recognize as one of the blurbs on the original MHI. That’s because Peter was one of my original self-published proof readers (and yes, he is the basis of the character Priest)

This Book Bomb is a little different than most because WWBS is non-fiction, and I’m primarily a sci-fi/fantasy guy. But this one is special. Peter used to be a prison chaplain and his friends have been harassing him for years to collect all of his stories in one place. I’m one of them. This is real life stuff, and they’ll make you laugh, cry, and probably buy more guns.

Yes, we did a Book Bomb last week for Brad Torgersen, but this one kind of snuck up on me because Peter is already connected with a mess of bloggers and today was the day picked to plug it. So what a great opportunity to jump onboard.

Peter is a South African soldier turned priest turned humanitarian worker during Apartheid turned Louisiana prison chaplain turned science fiction writer, married to an Alaskan bush pilot. He is… The Most Interesting Man in the World. Stay thirsty my friends.

Okay, and from the last post when I mentioned Peter’s wonderful wife and the lovely Mrs. Correia tag teaming and utterly annihilating a liberal during a gun control debate at a con… No. There is no video. However, Speaker to Lab Animals, (super genius scientist and famous Baen Bar Fly) witnessed this debate and told me that I’m not the Correia people should be afraid of. It was magnificent. They even managed to sneak in “you’re a southern white man, where to you get off telling women what we can do with our bodies!” Meaning how to protect them, with guns, but the cognitive dissonance was delightful to watch.

Normally I try to update Book Bombs through the day as we make the stats rise, and to post absolutely true fun facts about the author, but I’ve got a super important writing project that just cropped up unexpectedly which I need to focus on, so I probably won’t be online much today. I can’t say much because it is NOT one of my properties. I’m helping another author on their project. I’ll just drop the hint that it involves television, as in maybe being on TV, not being about TVs, but to keep the freak out to a minimum, this is NOT one of my existing properties. Thank you.
