Series II Challenge Coins: Update VIII

Hey all, the errant and elusive Jack Wylder here, returned from the wilds once more to make an announcement- all orders have now officially shipped. (Including the ones held up by the patches.) If you haven’t gotten your order by this point you need to shoot me an email so I can look up the tracking number on it. I’m going to give it a week or so and let Larry spread the word but we are not going to do this thing again where people email me and say ‘oh yeah I never got my order from 3 years ago- do you still have the tracking number?’ Speak now or forever hold your piece errr peace.
What this means for most of you:

  • The store will be re-opening very soon so you can once again order patches.
  • All extra coins will be sold off on a first come, first served basis. My plan is to offer up full sets first- once those are gone or everyone who wants one has gotten them, THEN I will open up any remaining designs on a one off basis. (Selling 12 coins on one order is much preferred to packaging 12 orders. After this last run of coins I’m about shipped out and not really looking forward to getting into another shipping frenzy…)
  • Remember when I told you about the vast and cavernous CorreiaTech warehouses? On a recent expedition into the heart of one I made a discovery that is sure to cause a mild freak out when announced. Let’s just say there are going to be some happy campers when all is said and done.(Yes, I am teasing this and yes I am a bastard for doing so. Daimyo in the Evil Legion of Evil, remember?)

Series II Challenge Coins: Update VII

Hey all, Jack Wylder here once again with the weekly update.

(I believe this will be the penultimate update as we are SOOOO close to being done.)

At this point I just need to pack up the export orders and a few ‘problem’ orders, plus a box that needs to be dropped off at the PO tomorrow. If all goes as expected and hoped, I’ll actually be able to ship the ILoH his coins within a week! Woo Hoo!! One slight hold up is on the MHI Smiley patches- it’s looking like 3-4 weeks before I can get more in hand. (My Shopify inventory is off by about 50. Maybe I’m the on who’s off, but I prefer to blame them…)
We are shipping most of the orders that need patches, along with a note that we’ll get the patches out ASAP. (I’m not going to hold up a domestic coin order for a patch.)

Believe it or not, when I got home from work today I was able to finally put up some Christmas decorations like my son has been begging me to do instead of worrying about the coins. Oh happy day!

I’ll let you all know when the last ones finally get out.

Ok, this week’s Q&A:

Q: I can’t believe I missed it! Will there be any chance of getting these coins again?
A: Yes, we ordered more than we needed specifically to offer up after all orders are filled. There will not be all THAT many, though, and they will be sold on a first come first served basis. These designs, like the first run before them, will be discontinued and not offered again. (Even after the summer blockbuster movie MHI:Origins or The Christmas Noun In 3D comes out and Larry becomes all famous and stuff.)

Q: Hey can I get my name on a waiting list/can you let me know first/ can you set aside an X coin for me?
A: Short answer, no. Long answer, still no. I’m not keeping track of who to contact or who wants what- when we have them available we’ll make the announcement and everyone will get the same shot at them. Keep an eye on Larry’s blog, Facebook or Twitter pages. FWIW I can tell you for SURE that I’m not going to post them until a week or two after the last orders ship just to be sure so it will likely be sometime in January.

That’s it for this week. Thank you all so much for your patience and support- both mean a lot to us.

Series II Challenge Coins: Update 6 (The Shippening)

Jack Wylder here, with your (now) weekly update on the progress of the coins.
(I would have put this up a while back but I wanted to leave Larry’s post about those Awesome MHI Lower and then his most recent thoughts on gun control on the top for a few days…) First let me get this out of the way: the website is not being attacked. We are aware that Larry’s recent temerity in posting once again about gun control has broken the internet and we are taking steps to fix it. (My goodness are we aware- it took me at least 15minutes to get this to post!) Accordingly, Weds night after midnight the site might be even more troubled than usual but it should be short lived and will hopefully once again take care of things for another 6 months at least. (If the ILoH would quit irreparably damaging his career maybe we wouldn’t have to worry about his personal servers STILL not being enough to keep up with the traffic…) My predecessor, Jack Wylder the XVII has been properly disciplined and I will be sure to get it working again promptly. Thank you.

Now on to coins… the lovely Mrs Wylder and the CorreiaTech Mamma Packing Brigade (assisted by myself, of course) have been burning through the packing and we are finally making some serious headway. At this point we have hundreds and hundreds of orders packaged (and filling the dining hall of CorreiaTech’s Texas Embassy.) Most of you should have received your tracking number emails- if you haven’t gotten yours yet, we’re getting to you just as quickly as we can. Keep in mind, though, that even if you got the email your package might not yet be on its way- I still have to drive these to the local PO. (I should be able to get at least one batch delivered tomorrow after work. Maybe two. My jeep can only handle so many boxes at once…) At this point we have three different sets of eyes reviewing each order so there shouldn’t be any mistakes in what is delivered and we are taping these boxes nine ways to Sunday so there shouldn’t be any empty boxes delivered this time. We’re not done yet, but I can see a light at the end of the tunnel now. I’m still not comfortable guaranteeing delivery before Christmas (but it IS still the goal and at this point it looks possible.)

This last weekend was for me just a perfect example of why I am a devout Capitalist. The CorreiaTech MPB worked hard and got a huge amount of orders packed, making our Customers happy, they were very well paid for their work (don’t tell anyone, but the ILoH is actually an incredibly generous dread overlord and these are all incredibly deserving ladies whose children will now have a much merrier Christmas/Happier Chanukah), the lovely Mrs Wylder is one step closer to having that half of her house back, yours truly is one step closer to being able to take a breath before plunging into the next CorreiaTech Special Project we have planned (that I am SO excited about), and Larry is one step closer to getting HIS coins (since he has decreed that, like last time, his is the last order shipped.) Win-win-win-win-win. Yay Capitalism!

Since the last post threatening to start cancelling orders I’ve been overwhelmed by the positive support and thanks coming in from the Monster Hunter Nation- thank you all so much! You’re the reason we do this to ourselves.

Ok on to the FAQ:

Q: Why can’t I order patches? I wanted them for Christmas!

A: That sucks and we are truly sorry. As stated before, when you find yourself in a hole the first step is to stop digging. We will get the store re-stored (heh) as quickly as we can but we have to fulfill our current obligations before taking on any new ones.

Q: I live overseas and still haven’t gotten my coins!

A: Again, I am very sorry about that. I’ve had to triage these orders to get as many out as quickly as possible and unfortunately with all of the customs declaration paperwork that goes with export orders I’ve had to push the domestic orders to the front. I will get your orders headed out as quickly as I can.

That’s all I can think of right now- I still have about 400 more packages to get into boxes and time is short so I’m going to wrap this up. Any other Q&A s I missed, just put ‘em in the comments and I’ll get to them as soon as I can. Thank you all again for your patience and support- you are all amazing and we appreciate you very much. I’ll update again next week and let you know where we stand.

Series II Challenge Coins: Update 5

And now a message from Jack. The short version is, he’s working on it. Some of you need to quit yelling at him. -Larry

Jack Wylder here, updating as requested on the progress of the coins.
I apologize in advance if this sounds like I’m making excuses- I’m not. This is an explanation of the behind the scenes sausage making and might help explain why while many other have, *you* haven’t gotten your coins yet.
The idea behind this was that we could offer Larry’s fans something cool they could enjoy and show off to their friends, while making a few bucks for ourselves on the side. We were very upfront at the beginning of how the process goes: Design phase, Ordering phase, Production phase, Fulfillment phase. The first two phases went swimmingly. Oh sure there were some hiccups on the back end side of things, but smoothly enough. We had some hold ups last time on the coins (I think it took 4-5 months last time just to get the coins) so we learned from our experiences and this time had the production of coins done in about 6 weeks. (Great job, Brenda!) The lighters were the hold up this time, but even that just put us a few weeks behind. Fulfillment IS going slower than anticipated (I was unemployed when we kicked this off) but still within the predicted time frame (allowing for the delay with the lighters). This coming Monday is the big push- I have several stay at home mothers who are coming over to help me pack orders (and make themselves some extra cash for Christmas) as we had planned. Still, I am bombarded by the question daily “where are my coins??”
That’s probably a good place to stop reading if you’re just looking for an update. Production set us slightly behind schedule, but we’re pushing hard and hope to have all orders shipped in time for Christmas. You’ll get an email with a tracking number when yours is ready to ship and you’ll be able to track it through the system. Thank you for your support!

Ok so here’s the exciting behind the scenes snapshot of my life right now that explains why you haven’t gotten yours yet:
Up at 4:30am, out of the house by 5:15am-5:30am
Get to work sometime between 6-6:30am
Leave work 3-3:30ish, home about 4:30pm-5:30pm (depending on traffic)
Dinner/family time 5:30/6:00pm- 6:30pm/7:00ish
Bath time with my son 7:00-7:30pm
Pack coins 7:30-8:30pm
Time with my wife/watch a show while packing coins 8:30-9:30
9:30-10:00 pass out
rinse lather repeat M-F
On a good day I might get 10-20 orders packed. I had north of 700 or so when we began so yours is no doubt in there somewhere.
Weekends: cub scouts, family time, volunteering at the church, honey-dos, packing coins, and occasionally attempting to do something non-mandatory. There was also a pretty important business trip in there that took up a week of time.
Want to know how I spent my 45th birthday? I had a nice lunch with my family and… packed coins all day.
First day off from work in like three months- guess how I spent it? Organizing the spreadsheet so I can actually print the labels instead of hand writing them like I have been. The postal system doesn’t like first and last name being joined in one cell which is of course how Shopify exports so it’s not quite as easy as you might think. Fortunately I have a boss who is a friggin wizard when it comes to Excel- on top of that he’s a member of the Monster Hunter Nation so he’s bent over backwards to help me with this. (David, I owe ya big!)
I’ve had the final components I need to be able to start shipping for about a month, so the shipping portion of the show has NOT been going on that long.
Here’s the extra bit on top of that list that helps me fill in any “free” moments I might find: answering the emails. Oh the emails. Here’s what the emails look like in a normal week:
1 person writing to thank me for the awesome coins.Thank you! You make the project worth doing.
16 people politely inquiring as to the status of their coins. Fair enough, although like I said I’ll update as soon as there’s anything worth updating besides ‘still packing- yours is coming up at some point.’
37 people asking why they can’t order patches. Again- the store is closed until these are all done. I am NOT taking new orders while frantically trying to fill these existing ones. (First rule when you find yourself in a hole: stop digging!)
8-15 people sending one line emails like ‘where are my coins?!’ or ‘its been three months and I want my coins!’ ‘Are you shipping my coins or do I have to call a lawyer?’ or my favorite- ‘I’m copying Larry on this so he can set his employee straight!’ Let me clue you in here folks, Larry is more my partner than my boss on this. Larry and I go way back (back before he was Larry F Correia, NYT Best Selling Author and ILoH- back when he was just Larry.) Part of our deal is that I handle this so Larry can write. Interrupting his writing to tell him you’re not happy isn’t productive- the most you will possibly inspire is on our next phone call he *might* ask me what the deal was with that one jackass who had to email him and you might possibly delay his next book ever so slightly. I am severely tempted to just start automatically refunding any orders from people like this. I have a waiting list of people who would be happy to take these orders in your place.
I have to balance all of this with the fact that a) I genuinely respect and even like a majority of the Monster Hunter Nation and take a lot of satisfaction with having them pleased with the results of a project and b) even those I don’t necessarily like are b1) paying customers and b2) fans of one of my closest friends and I REALLY don’t want to screw that up for him- if ever there was a person who deserves their success it’s Larry.
So there ya go, folks. That’s as complete of an update as I can possibly give you. I’m working on getting you your coins, but I don’t have a magic wand or a shipping department to do my bidding. I promise you I will get these to you just as quickly as I can and that I want all orders filled much, much more than anyone else.
Happy Holidays and I’ll let you know how Monday goes…

Series II Challenge Coins: Update #4

Hey all- Jack Wylder here with the promised update #4. (I said I’d post when I had news to share and so I am.)
As of yesterday evening I finally have all of the coins- (yay!) UPS ‘misplaced’ 2 of the boxes and it took some time to find them, but now all is good. Still waiting on the Zippos, but that’s a whole different story. Short version; should be early next week. So I now have all of the coins- what does that mean for you? Well I have coins, but precious little time right now. The amazing new job takes up about 12 hours a day (with travel time and such) and of course there’s the whole sleep thing, having a cub scout in the family (a rather time consuming thing), occasionally seeing the wife, etc etc etc… So time is at a premium. I have over 600 orders still to fill; that’s almost a full time job’s week worth of work needing to be done. I’m doing what I can and fulfilling what I can as time permits but it is slow going. I do have a plan, though- my wife knows a lot of stay at home mamas who can always use a bit of extra cash so we’re going to put them to work and try to knock these out as quickly as we can. Understand, Larry and I don’t get paid until these are done and I can’t get started on the next special project until this is over- there’s a good possibility I want you to get your coins even more than you do! You’ve been patient and we appreciate it very much. They’re slowly shipping now and the big push is coming soon. Beyond that, I’ll keep you posted here when there’s anything new to say. Thanks again to all- the CorreiaTech fulfillment center is working on it as best we can. 🙂
