Heading into the last few days of the MHI Kickstarter

I just sent out the following update

##

We are heading into the last couple days on the MHI Challenge Coin Kickstarter. This project has been a much greater success than I imagined. We’ve unlocked 13 regular coins, and the add ons for Dead Six and the Harbinger Zippo have been really popular.

We’ve been asked:

“Can I up my pledge after the project closes?”  – Nope. When the KS closes, it will no longer accept adjustments. So if you’ve settled on what you want, make sure you tweak your pledge before it closes.

“Will these be available after the project closes?” – Sort of. Maybe. Basically I will be rounding the items up to the next production level based on the numbers ordered. So there will be some extras of each item. However, I don’t know yet how many that is going to be, and how long they are going to last for.

We are almost at the end. The art has gone to mint and I’m hoping to get some work in progress shots for you soon. We are going to try our best to get these shipped in time for Christmas, and that looks achievable, but it is going to be close.

Thanks for you support,

-Larry

I forgot to add, so will need to send another tomorrow, I don’t think we’re going to add on any more stretch goals. We’ve got the 13 finalized and we’ve sent them off to the mint so they could get started on them. The goal now would be to get them done and shipped in time for Christmas, as I know a bunch of these are intended as presents.

Right now we are at $80,402, 2682% funded, and 897 backers. Just so you know, that’s a whole lot higher than I ever expected. Originally I thought we’d hit stretch goals to get to 10 coins. Maximum. And that was only a maybe. Instead we got to 13, with 2 D6 add ons and a Zippo.

Now we’re heading into the last couple of days, so this should be interesting!

A request from the Stolen Droids podcast

I’ve been on their show several times, and they are big fans. – Larry

Hello Everyone!

In the two years that we’ve been doing the Stolendroids Podcast and Stolendroids Present, we’ve had the opportunity to meet with and interview lots of awesome people.  People who we never thought we’d have the chance to interact with and whose work we greatly admire and enjoy.  It has been a great pleasure to get to do interview each of you for our listeners, and I thank each of you for that.
As it turns out, our listeners have enjoyed it as well! They have nominated us for the second time in a row for The Podcast Awards (twice in two years isn’t a bad average, I figure).  Last year we didn’t know what we were doing and didn’t stand a chance.  This year, however, we hope to come away with a win!  This won’t be easy as the other shows that have been nominated are all excellent as well.
This year we’re reaching out to you for help.  If you post a call to action on your Facebook or Twitter to vote for us at www.podcastawards.com (under the technology section), it would greatly help us out.  You can vote daily until November 15th.  Some people will be asked to verify their vote via email, but it’s just to keep the bots out of the system.  If you don’t feel comfortable asking your fans and followers to do this, I would still ask you to consider voting for us yourself.
Thank you again, for all that you do! Without content creators like you, there wouldn’t be geeky fans like us!
Sincerely,
Kazuki “Zuke” Arakaki

Geeky Hobbies: Lots of Mini Painting

I posted earlier today about model making and kit bashing. I was supposed to be working on MHN today, but we’re finishing my basement so there is a work crew in my house and I’ve discovered that makes working from home and getting into the writing zone a little weird. So what the heck, let’s post some more minis on the blog instead.

First up, I need to remember that most of my regular readers don’t realize how damned tiny these things are. So here is a scale shot of some familiar items to give you an idea. Those are .45 ACP. (my desk gun is a S&W 625).

scale

And yes, believe it or not, I actually do find this a relaxing hobby. 🙂  Sundays after church, I paint minis with my kids. Monday morning it is back to the word mines.

Up first, a monster.

Raek 1

This is for an upcoming IKRPG.

Raek 2

As many of my regular readers know, I write books for Warmachine, but I also play the game. These next few are from an army that I’m running right now in a local league.

Ret light

These were camo painted with a sponge technique using bits of blister foam.

Ret H other side

It is actually a pretty easy method. To make sure they were shaded I highlighted them black first, then spray primed white directly down on top. Since the under coat was lighter, even though it is all the same camo color, they do look properly shaded with sunlight coming down.

Ret H side

The leaf clutter on the base is made of birch seed pods, but to scale they look like leaves.

Ret Heavy back

Then you’ve seen this guy, but I finally got him finished.

Ivan 1

Yes. He does look a lot like me when I was rocking the murder hobo beard. I named him Ivan.

Ivan 2

Stripes are a challenge. Tats are actually pretty nifty to figure out, because you can’t just paint them on without them looking stupid. You actually mix the paint with whatever the base tone flesh color is, and then slowly layer it up. Cool stuff. (if you’re a geek, but I digress)

Ivan 3

I painted the next three in one sitting. These were done rather quickly, but they were experiments in different color schemes for different Warmachine factions.

Khador, which is sort of pseudo-Tsarist Russia

MoW

I went for a dirty white. I like the scheme, but the next one will need to be more dilluted layers, as white is difficult to paint without looking streaky.

MoW back

Then Menoth, which is a sort of Old Testement jihadi religious fanatics. With lots of fire. (the bad guys in Into the Storm)

Menoth

I went with black, purple, and gold.

And Trolls. Because who doesn’t like trolls?

Troll light

He’s no Melvin though.

And here is a group shot of a bunch of the characters I’ve done up for IKRPG.
