  1. Just thought you might want to comment on something I saw online. The San Francisco board of supervisors passed a resolution declaring the NRA a “Domestic Terrorist Organization”.

    1. What universe do they live in? It’s not this one.

And then Friday I saw a headline on Google Finance and followed it to Forbes. Yeah, I know, Forbes, but this is an alarming piece of government overreach:

Own a rifle? Got a scope to go with it? The U.S. government might soon know who you are, where you live and how to reach you.

That’s because the government wants Apple and Google to hand over names, phone numbers and other identifying data of at least 10,000 users of a single gun scope app, Forbes has discovered. It’s an unprecedented move: Never before has a case been disclosed in which American investigators demanded personal data of users of a single app from Apple and Google. And never has an order been made public where the feds have asked the Silicon Valley giants for info on so many thousands of people in one go.

According to an application for a court order filed by the Department of Justice (DOJ) on September 5, investigators want information on users of Obsidian 4, a tool used to control rifle scopes made by night-vision specialist American Technologies Network Corp. The app allows gun owners to get a live stream, take video and calibrate their gun scope from an Android or iPhone device. According to the Google Play page for Obsidian 4, it has more than 10,000 downloads. Apple doesn’t provide download numbers, so it’s unclear how many iPhone owners could be swept up in this latest government data grab.

They’re supposedly trying to prevent the scopes from being exported or track down any that have been, but they want EVERYBODY who ever downloaded the app, when more than 99% of them have dick-all to do with any investigation.

After 2 1/2 years, are there still some 0bama/Holder stooges lurking in the DOJ woodpile?

I remember when they tried to force Apple to write an iPhone-cracking program. Apple offered to crack all the iPhones they wanted for them but NOOOOO, they demanded a program to crack any iPhone, anywhere, anytime.

By the way, what does Melvin do in his spare time?

Agent Franks closed his eyes with a pained grimace. “Troll porn. Don’t ask. There are some things even the Old Ones don’t want to know.”

    2. And the NRA has filed suit (Awful quick given we’re still waiting on 1986’s “high priority” of challenging the Hughes!). Will be a hard case since the NRA’s president last year said gun control supporters were “terrorists” and the NRA has been supporting illegal gun control for almost a century.

  2. Can people who ask dumb questions during Q&A delete them from the thread? I hear there’s a lot of that going on over on FB these days…

  3. Any hope of a MHI movie ! Your books are awesome work btw and always good to see u sticking up for right to bear arms bought a cz 75 because of a reference of yours and lots of research thanks Larry

  4. My wife and I just kind of stumbled onto FanX while we were touristing in SLC on Thursday. Unfortunately we had to settle for eating food truck curry, cosplay watching and hoping for an ILOH sighting.

  5. I’m a bit late to the party here, but I noticed you were on a panel called “Writing The Perfect Action Scene,” so I went back and re-read your “ASK CORREIA 6: WRITING ACTION” in the Best of MHN section. Really good stuff, of course, but since that was 9 years ago I was wondering if there was anything you’d change or additional insight on the subject?
