A Book Bomb is when I pick out a deserving author who could use a publicity boost, and get as many people as possible to buy their book in the same day on Amazon. The more people who buy, the higher it goes in the sales rankings. Once it gets on some bestseller lists, that gets it in front of even more new eyes. Success breeds success, the author gets new readers, and most importantly, the author GETS PAID.

A little while ago I did a double barrel Book Bomb, where instead of pushing one book, I picked two. That seemed to work really well so we’re going to try to do that again. Plus, one of them is from Krasnovia and other flew for Pinelandia during the war so I hope that this Book Bomb will help heal the rift between our peoples. And get me a Nobel Peace Prize, because that would look pretty sweet on the shelf next to my Dragon Awards.

However, if you’ve been following my blog over the last week you know we’ve got a wrinkle. I’ve been on Facebook for a few hours in a row without being banned, but I don’t know how long that will last. So I’m hoping that you guys spread the word on this one. Tell your friends, and spread the link, because Peter and Jim are two great guys who could use the publicity boost.

I’ve known both of these guys for a long time. Peter is a former recon Marine. Jim was a naval aviator. They’re both good friends, and more importantly to you both of them can write visceral, tense, punch you in the gut action. And probably even more important than that, it looks like both of these are available for FREE if you’ve got Kindle Unlimited. (and actually I’ve got no idea how that will effect our stats, but here goes!)

UPDATE 1:  Things really jumped over night. The reason I start launching the Book Bombs the night before is that Amazon has like a 12 hour delay before the sales register, so this way during the day we can watch the exciting number climb. (well, it probably isn’t that exciting to most of you but to the authors it is!) 🙂

Peter jumped up 30,000 spots.

  2. Rimworld: Militia Up is an excellent sequel to Rimworld: Into the Green. Both have a lot of humor, tense moments, and gut-twisting action scenes. I have both, and they’re also great for re-reading on flights or trips. Lots of details and subplots keep emerging.

    Some of the humor comes from the action. The main character, Ethan Fargo, has a problem. His militia company is all senior retired NCOs and WOs. They’re also all Ghurkas. “Hey Captain, watch this!” takes on new levels of insanity.
    Fargo is facing hidden and open enemies, all very lethal, both foreign and domestic. Very nice structure, and well written to make all the pieces work.

    Do some more collateral damage.

  6. Well, I already own all of Peter Nealen’s books but I did pick up Militia Up and Into the Green, sound really interesting.

    Oh, also the first Greyman book, as that sounded cool too.

    I guess I’ll put off rereading Monster Hunter Siege for the 3rd time, for a bit. Naps and bed time for two toddlers who dont want to sleep give me plenty of reading time.

  8. Just hit them both. I have a love/hate relationship with the book bombs. I love finding great new authors to read but I struggle to find the time in my already crowded stack.

  12. I’ve already been reading whatever Nealen put’s out. Really enjoyed all of his series so far. I’m not familiar with J.L, but will grab “Rimworld” and check it out.

    A bit OT, but I thought you’d like to know that MHI is now officially-approved academic curriculum in at least one American public school classroom.

    I teach in a rural West Valley school district in Stanislaus County, CA, not far from my home in Gustine. My gig for the last five years has been Alternative Education, specifically the Community Day School where all of the misguided youths who get kicked out of regular classrooms are sent for “behavior modification” and the chance to earn their way back to the regular school. While not unintelligent, they do not place academics high on their list of interests, so it is a constant challenge to find ways to engage them.

    During my most recent summer reading of the MHI saga (my fifth, I believe), I had an idea: since one of my main thematic units in English Literature is the Epic Hero and His Journey, and since trying to get the students into Homer or Beowulf this early in the year makes me feel like Sisyphus, I thought I might start the year by working with MHI. Owen Pitt and his journey fills every box on the Epic Hero Checklist, and it is told with a lot of great modern, pop-culture elements and a hefty helping of humor. My principal approved my selection and the shipment of books arrived today.

    I only wish the gnomes appeared in the first novel; my kids would find the “gnomies” hilarious. 🙂

    1. I introduced my older son to MHI. This is a child who positively hated to read. Well now he can’t get enough of anything written Mr. Correia or Mr. Ringo. He still believes that Nemesis is the best book ever written. So I can see that getting the right books in front of kids can turn around their ideas about reading.

    Observation: if Larry’s book bombs work this well there must be a LOT of like-minded followers out there. Many more than the petulant children running Facebook, Twitter etc. would have us believe.

    1. ‘Nother observation: If Larry was recommending lousy books, the Book Bombs would not KEEP working after so many years. Thousands of people buy thousands of books on his recommendation. He must be doing something right.

        1. Somebody needs to tell the SJW’s that a few words from the International Lord Of Hate are worth more than their Precioussss. That should make their pointy little heads overheat!
