It is BOOK BOMB time!
This month’s book is Witchy Eye from Dave Butler.
The purpose of a BOOK BOMB is to get as many people as possible to buy the same book on the same day. That gets it to go up in the sales rankings on Amazon as much as possible. The higher it gets, the more eyes see it, the more new readers check it out. Success breeds success, and the most important thing is that the author GETS PAID. So please check it out, and if you like it, tell your friends and spread the word.
I use Amazon for this because it has an hourly updating sales rank and half the fun is seeing how high we can make it go, but if you want to buy it from your local store, or Barnes and Noble, or whatever, that’s great because the author still GETS PAID. And the whole point is to get a deserving author with a quality book new fans.
Many of my regular readers might recognize Dave Butler (it helps that he is 6’12” and has a mustache like unto Tom Selleck) because I’ve mentioned him here before. He’s a really talented author. Previously I plugged his Rock Band Fights Evil series, but I got to read an advance copy of Witchy Eye and it is superb.
Witchy Eye has a really interesting setting, early American fantasy. Basically it is an epic fantasy story set in the really early 1800s with a magical alternative history. I’ve read a few other books where the author tried that kind of setting (most famous is Orson Scott Card’s Alvin Maker series) but I liked this better. Besides the setting, it’s got solid characters you can root for, and it moves at a good clip. It was one of the more interesting fantasy novels I’ve read recently.
And it helps that Dave is about the nicest guy possible, so I’m really hoping he sells a truckload of books.
Throughout the Book Bomb I’ll be checking back in to update the stats. As of right now (Monday night) we are at:
Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #125,330 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)
- #399 in Books > Literature & Fiction > Genre Fiction > Historical > Alternate History
- #1118 in Books > Literature & Fiction > Genre Fiction > Historical > Fantasy
- #3414 in Books > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Fantasy > Epic
Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #37,795 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)
- #897 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Fantasy > Epic
- #1505 in Books > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Fantasy > Epic
The reason I’m starting the BOOK BOMB tonight and running it all day tomorrow is that Amazon has put in like a 12 hour delay before sales start registering on its rankings. So we start selling stuff tonight, by tomorrow it should be ticking upward. And like I said, watching the rank change is half the fun. 🙂
EDIT: As of this morning we are up about 100,000 places.

Summary looks interesting. I will have to wait to get off work before I can decide to get it or not. I see that it says all day in the blog, but is there a hard stopping point a time where you most want us to buy it?
Buy it whenever. The more who buy it during the day the better for his stats, but the important thing is that the author GETS PAID.
Decided to buy. Haven’t read an alternate history genre like this based on the blurb. That said there may be a few books ahead of it in my reading queue.
“it helps that he is 6’12” and has a mustache like unto Tom Selleck”
That’s a really strange way to say he’s 7′ tall.
HUMOR? HOW DOES IT WORK?
Uh, OK.
Emboughtened it.
The only other books I’ve read in the setting of Witchy Eye are Drake’s Old Nathan and the Alvin Maker series mentioned in the OP.
I enjoyed those and have been looking for more in that sort of world build.
The Patriot Witch by C.C. Finlay was pretty good, although I liked Old Nathan better.
The book you mentioned sounded interesting. It’s out of print now, but Amazon has used copies of The Patriot Witch and its two sequels for sale. Thanks for the tip!
There’s also Katherine Kimbriel’s Night Calls trilogy, which I recommend highly.
Done! I’ll start reading it after my re-read of ‘A Boy and his Tank,’ and post a review when complete.
Got it!
Just bought it
Done. I’ve read Alvin Maker but it wasn’t really on my list of favorites, so I was hesitant to order this one. After reading the description, though, I snagged the hardcover.
Awesome that you do this, Larry. Recent comer here. More I see, more I like you. ????
Got my copy late last night, reading/review (5 star, of course, its Baen so it has to be good), almost didn’t hit it on the day of. was about midnight mountain time.
That’s some nice movement! 🙂 Starting the book tonight!!!
I bought it, but now I’m wondering if Dave has Tom Selleck eyebrows to go with the mustache (everyone underestimates the eyebrows.)
Bought it this morning and I haven’t been able to put it down since. Absolutely engrossing world-building at every angle.
Cutting into my ammo budget…
Started Witchy Eye is is great!
