BOOK BOMB! Nethereal by Brian Niemeier

It is BOOK BOMB time!

Today’s pick is Nethereal by Brian Niemeier.  I read this a couple of months ago and the best way to describe it is Space Pirates Go To Hell, only it is way cooler than that description makes it sound.

For those of you new to Book Bombs, the goal is to get as many people as possible to buy an author’s book on the same day. The more books sell, the higher it gets in the rankings, the more new people see it. If it is something that you would be interested in reading anyway, getting it the same time as a bunch of other folks pushes it up in the ratings, which means more publicity, exposure, and new fans. Success breeds success, and a good Book Bomb can get an author hundreds of new fans. We steer people toward Amazon for this because it is big, has lots of eyes on it, and has an constantly updating sales rank, but if you prefer to purchase somewhere else go for it, because the most important thing is that the author GETS PAID.

So please spread the word and tell your friends. Brian is a relatively new writer, so let’s give his career a boost.

Being an appreciative sort of guy, Brian had this to say:

Thanks Larry, and thanks to the Monster Hunter Nation. You guys have always made me feel welcome in the comments. I’m especially grateful for your hospitality today.
I first came to this blog as a reader, like all of you. I wanted the fun, exciting stories that seem to be in short supply these days.
Larry stands among a new generation of authors who write for a vastly underserved audience. These writers know that the reader is king. They put entertainment first. By their example–and with guidance from stellar authors like John C. Wright and Jeff Duntemann, and my awesome editors L. Jagi Lamplighter and Jason Rennie–I learned that I work for you, the readers.
How’s it working out? My first anniversary as a pro novelist is next month, and for my performance review, my bosses nominated me for a Campbell Award.
You did that. Words are the tools of my trade, but I can’t find any that fully express my gratitude.
So I’ll just say thanks and point you toward my first book, Nethereal. It’s been described as what you’d get if A. Merritt wrote a Dune novel after binge-watching 90s anime. Nevertheless, people dig it.
Already read Nethereal? I haven’t forgotten about you. The thrilling and even better-received sequel, Souldancer, is available now. And in honor of the occasion, it’s on sale.
Thanks again to my esteemed host the International Lord of Hate, and to the readers who support us authors. Buy my books so I can GET PAID and bring you more stories about space pirates in space hell.
About Nethereal
A woman like no other who longs for acceptance.
A precision killer inspired by the dream of his captain.
The last member of a murdered race, fighting to avenge his people against the might of the Guild…and the dark powers behind it.
The Sublime Brotherhood of Steersmen holds the Middle Stratum in its iron grip. Jaren Peregrine, last of the Gen, raids across fringe space with Nakvin—her captain’s best pilot and only friend, apprentice steersman Deim, and mercenary Teg Cross.
Hunted by the ruthless Master Malachi, Jaren and his crew join a conspiracy to break the Guild’s monopoly with an experimental ship. But when its maiden voyage goes awry, the Exodus flies farther off course than its crew could have imagined.

I will update the stats periodically throughout the day.

Right now it is ranked:

Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #56,367 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #108,369 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

EDIT: And this is why I started posting the Book Bombs late the night before the actual day. It used to be that Amazon’s rankings started moving up an hour after I started the BB, which made for a wild and crazy day, with the peak usually hit that afternoon while people are still awake. But then Amazon stuck in this LONG delay before sales register, so when I posted BB’s in the morning we wouldn’t see any movement at all until after lunch, which totally killed the momentum, and then we hit the peak really late at night when most people were asleep. That totally defeated the purpose.

So now, I post the BB’s the night before. Here we are 7:00 in the morning my time, and the numbers have started ticking upward. Now let’s spread the word for the morning crowd and build some momentum.

Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #15,392 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #52,516 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

EDIT: 11:00 MST and still ticking up.

Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #4,009 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #43,760 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

EDIT: 2:00 MST, okay, now we’re talking. Once you get into the top 20 of a genre you start getting lots of new eyeballs on a book. We’re almost there. So please, keep on reposting and telling your friends.

Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #1,725 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #15,550 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

EDIT: 4:00 MST, still climbing, and now we’ve cracked the top 20 in space opera.

Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #1,109 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #10,690 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

EDIT: 9:30 MST, and I’m off the internet for the night. Still moving right along, and if previous Book Bombs are any indicator, I figure we’ll see the spike sometime tonight, and in the morning is should be hovering around this number here. Top 20 in three genres, so not too shabby. Well done, Monster Hunter Nation.

Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #523 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #7,699 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

Remember, the other thing that you can do to boost new authors, is after you get done reading the book, try and post a review. The more reviews a book has the more likely it is to show up in searches and features.

Thanks, everybody!

EDIT: And the next morning, this is the nice part where after the initial spike, the BOOK BOMB has the book floating up there in the rankings high enough that more new people see it. From what I’ve seen the author usually gets a few days or a week of increased sales out of it too, which is pretty sweet.

Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #418 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #8,200 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

EDIT: And one last edit, 1:00 the next day, because I was just made aware of this.

  1. Bought my copy a long time ago and helped vote to put him on the Sad Puppies list for Campbell Award. But I’ll be pimping this out all day. 🙂

  2. “Being an appreciative sort of guy…”

John taught me that gratitude is the only sane response to life 😉

A Book Bomb sure makes being grateful easy, though!

Thanks again, Larry, and thanks to everyone who’s participating today 🙂

  3. I don’t post much but I always enjoy participating in a Book Bomb. I’ve been waiting for today since Larry gave the heads up.

    Cover art looks amazing too!

  4. bought the book last night. looking forward to reading it right after i finish my latest Tank book.

  5. Bought a paperback – you had me at Dune, 90s anime, and space pirates. If it lives up to the promise, Niemeier will have another fan for life.

        1. @ Mrs. Wright

I’m sorry, this is completely off-topic. Well, sort of. Seeing you mentioned as an editor for this book, I googled you and found your website. Then I saw a post where you talk about (I assume they’re you’re kids) discussing a way to combine Wolverine and Batman. And I couldn’t find a way to comment on that post, but I just had to respond.

They totally did that! For reals! It was an actual comic! Back in the ’90s, Marvel and DC combined for a run of “Amalgam Comics” wherein they combined their characters. The Wolverine/Batman character was called Dark Claw, and he was pretty badass. He had his own comic which was called, I believe, “Legends of the Dark Claw”. (And yes, because I was a geeky teenager I still have the whole Amalgam set. It even came with a Dark Claw mini-poster, though I’m not sure if I still have that.)

  6. Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #1,725 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)
#24 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Science Fiction > Space Opera
#26 in Books > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Science Fiction > Space Opera
#48 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Literature & Fiction > Horror

I already have both Nethereal and it’s even more awesome sequel, Souldancer. Excellent work, guys!

    1. Bob, I need to get an official date on the calendar for yours. I’ve got John Brown’s new thriller coming up and Galactic Games anthology for Bryan Thomas Schmidt.

  7. Just bought it. Will review when I get to read it. This is the coolest thing. Very cool of you Larry Correia.

  8. #476 paid in Kindle Store
    #7 in space opera
    #14 in horror

I was wrong. My readers aren’t my bosses.

They are powerful gods whom I must worship and fear 😮

  9. Tirno to Hate Lord

Ingress as fragged, good sparkle, tally, rolling in hot.

Book bombs away. Report splash two, repeat splash two with secondaries.

Egress to point Charlie, standing by for additional taskings.

    Over.

  10. Bought. Honestly, I’m relatively new to this sort of thing, because I’ve been holding out on e-books for so long, but I’d like to support the style of story (haven’t read a word yet though, and I have a couple books that I am honor bound to finish first).

It is a very nice cover. Definitely got your money’s worth.

  11. #493 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)
#5 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Science Fiction > Space Opera
#6 in Books > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Science Fiction > Space Opera
#15 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Literature & Fiction > Horror

    1. And now

#455 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)
#7 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Science Fiction > Space Opera
#7 in Books > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Science Fiction > Space Opera
#15 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Literature & Fiction > Horror

Strange how a better overall ranking is a lower category ranking at the same time. Space Opera must be on a roll right now!

  12. “Well done, Monster Hunter Nation.”

Amen, Larry! Heartfelt thanks to you, as well.

According to my calculations, you guys made this Book Bomb one of the top ten most successful ever–both in terms of lowest, and most improved, ranking.

If you like Nethereal, there’s plenty more adventure, mystery, and fun in store on this journey, and everyone’s invited.

  13. A little late to the book bomb due to family obligations, but I’ve just purchased. Looking forward to reading it!

  14. Brian,

I’m also late to the game but this looks fun. Add another purchase to your tally.

I’m looking forward to reading it!
