Today’s geeky hobby mini painting posts, I’ve got light box pics of my Haq army from Infinity.
This color scheme was picked because I really struggle with shading yellows, so I figured this would be good practice.
I am very pleased with how these faces turned out. The fact that the dude in the middle looks just like me is purely a coincidence.
Yellows are tough to shade, and I find that white highlights on them never blend right. so I started with some brown base coats and worked up with golds to bright yellow.
For bases I wanted a kind of sandy desert look. Middle dude was an original test paint scheme, but the browns and blacks just didn’t pop enough, so that’s when I decided to go for the yellows, which resulted in the sniper on the right, and then I ran with that for the rest.
The camo pattern was an experiment, but I kind of like it. Looking at the glamor shots I wish I would have spent more time getting some reflections on the visors.
Yep, the camo really works! I’m amazed at how prolific you are. Hey, if you got an extra moment, I’d love to hear your thoughts on my miniature Owen Pitt (which I finally got around to finishing!) http://supervikes.blogspot.com/
Wow. That is awesome. Good job. I’m going to go post the link on FB.
Thanks man!! Thanks for writing such a cool character!
Those are great! I love the Deep One Hybrids. I’ve tried doing a few MH figures but they didn’t come out anywhere near as good as yours.
Those paint jobs look good. The times I tried painting my figurines they came out so sloppy that I just left mine in the original lead or pewter ever after. I’m curious do you need to use something like one of those desk mount reading magnifiers or a jewelers magnifier when you work on those?
Nope. Just eyeballs. Then I take pictures, expand them to look at details, and go back and fix mistakes.
Great job hopefully it gives you some Dead Six inspiration please give us some news on Project Blue. Please, please and thank you.
Please
I know this isn’t really the place and you may already know about it, but I bought I think it was the Hard Magic book and while I am enjoying it it seems to have some proofreading errors or something. I have the kindle version so the original written physical books may not have the issues. I still like it and it’s not more than a moment’s annoyance when for some reason my mind tries to stubbornly understand the context of what is being said in an obvious error.
I don’t recall any such errors in any of the kindle Monster Hunter books. Even if it cannot be fixed I thought you might possibly want to know about it. Nice painting btw I just don’t have the patience for miniatures but I think it’s cool for those who do.
I’m more 40K than infinity, but I wouldn’t let one of my armies sit on the same table as yours. They’d all die of shame. seriously, you have some mad paintin skillz.
I started out in Infinity thinking that I’d give Haqqislam a try. They seemed well-rounded and I really liked the sculpts. But I’ll be damned, I cannot make heads or tails out of their fucking unit names. Seriously. Now I have a Pan-O Knightly Orders force. I can look at my printout of troops and figure out who’s who. With Haq, not so much.
Larry, I’m probably not the first person to point this out, but there seems to be a huge continuity error in MHI:N. I woulda PM’d you but you don’t tweet anymore. How do I break this terrible, horrible, soul-shattering news to you?
I’m probably already aware, and it isn’t what you think it is, or I’m not worried about it. 🙂 Feel free to post it wherever.
Well, shoot, where’s the fun in THAT?
This does not really go here but I know that this will go to moderation anyways so you can delete it. I do a blog on CFO topics and a few hobbies, and I am doing quick book reviews with the idea of getting something in the airport. I chose your Grimnoir books as my latest recommendation, I aim my blog at accountants (as a CFO I am just a “super” accountant and I thought you would get a kick out of it.

Nice paint jobs on tne figures, I prefer fantasy figures and I have spent far more hours painting little guys than I care to admit to. Painting figures is relaxing for me because I need to concentrate so much on the painting that other concerns fade away.
