  1. Well, you already got my money for the eARC and the forthcoming audiobook and normal book. All I can say is write faster. My money is burning a hole in my pocket.

  2. I’ve also read the eARC, and it’s very good, with some neat twists I didn’t see coming. I’m looking forward to the rest of the series.

  3. I haven’t read much about this new book until this linked review. Is it just me or did this remind anyone of Judge Dredd? I’m not saying that’s a bad thing. I just noticed a similarity.

    1. Hmmm… I’ve read some comics and watched the movies (one horrid, one awesome). You’ve got the Law (Capital L) as a defining part of a man’s character. Other than that I got nothing… I suppose both are really super violent. 🙂

    2. I’ve only seen the first movie and none of the comics so my perspective is admittedly limited. But from the first movie and the review I see these similarities:

–Is the Biggest and Baddest of the Defenders/Protectors of the Law
–Unquestioning of his enforcement of Law
–Becomes an Outlaw and fights against those he formerly fought beside and for
–Discovers nuance, that not everything is black and white, and that the Law may not be entirely just

I realize that the review only provides a small window into the story but these points really reminded me of J.D. I’m sure there are many more differences to be encountered when reading the full story.

      1. Okay, that kind of works actually. But I mostly know Dredd from the Karl Urban version, so the outlaw part doesn’t register. I can’t give spoilers, but basically, sorta, yes, but it is way more complicated than that.

  4. Bought the new book last night as N eArc from Baen (I have trouble waiting when it comes to my favorite author). I finished this morning. Loved it! Damn it, now I have to wait for the next one. Larry, as long as you keep writing, I’ll keep buying.
