BOOK BOMB! Freehold Anniversary edition!

Today’s Book Bomb is for Mike Williamson’s special hard cover rerelease of the classic novel Freehold.

Freehold (Freehold Series)

Most of my regular readers know Mike because he always jumps in on the best internet fights. He is a leading proponent of combating Puppy Related Sadness. I think Freehold was his first novel and it is pretty damned badass. Think Libertarian planet that won’t get pushed around standing up to a statist space UN. It spawned a series of novels which I also recommend you check out.

It has been rereleased so today we are going to see how high we can push it. The way Book Bombs work is that we get as many people to buy a good book on the same day, and by doing that it pushes the book up the Amazon rankings. The higher it gets, the more new people notice it, the more new readers a writer gets, and most important of all, the writer GETS PAID.

As of right now we are at:
Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #24,581 in Books

EDIT to add: And the Kindle book is currently FREE today!
Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #1,761 Free in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Free in Kindle Store)
#13 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Science Fiction > Military

  1. Amazon needs to get its shit together! They say the hardcover was published May 6th!

Anyway, will buy it tonight. I’m going out of town for a few days and want to make sure they ship as late as possible.

    1. Forget I said anything about the date. Could have sworn the release date was sooner. And there goes my excuse for not ordering now.

      1. Wow. Just, Wow.

He takes a well written piece, reinterprets it to the Internet Argument Checklist, represents it as a direct quote, then picks apart what is said in his quote, entirely ignoring what Toni is actually saying.

He is directly violating Wil Wheaton’s mantra.

    1. I’m about halfway through, and I’m wondering… when is the war going to start? There is gonna be a war, right? Lesbo sex and training are all very well, but that won’t carry the ball over the finish line.

  2. This is ironic. Yesterday I was mourning how I couldn’t participate in the Book Bomb because I was too poor. And now the Kindle edition is free. Guess who just participated!

When I’ve got some extra money, Michael Z. Williamson, I’ll buy myself a real hardcover copy as repayment. And maybe I’ll get the sequels, too.

    1. Geth the sequels. Not only do the stories kick ass, but I’ve met Mad Mike IRL (Penguicon here in MI) and he’s a great guy too! I’m happy to give money for a good book to a good guy. There is NO downside here.

  3. I purchased that edition the day it was offered. I may have squeed. Actually, no, certainly not. More of a manly “woo hoo!” while taking a swig of JD.

    Highly recommended.

  4. Nice job, MHN.

  5. I love what the review blurb on the amazon page MZW linked to says:

“A fast-paced, compulsive read…will appeal to fans of John Ringo, David Drake, Lois McMaster Bujold, and David Weber.” – Kliatt

Yup, direct hit. Financial hull breached. Money is being spent as if Larry just came out with a new MHI Omnibus AND the e-ark for MHN…

  6. Ordered the HC, release says May 6th.
I can wait. Perused the one-star comments for fun. Talk about butt-hurt libs hating on libertarians!

  7. Ah, wonderful book by a wonderful guy! That’ll go on on the shelf under the small collection of “books that don’t get loaned out.”

The paperback and sequels are under the loanable section. 🙂

  8. oh and up from #24,581 to the below:

Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #1,314 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

#27 in Books > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Science Fiction > Military
#31 in Books > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Science Fiction > Space Opera
#81 in Books > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Science Fiction > Adventure

  9. Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #675 in Books
#19 in Books > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Science Fiction > Military
#22 in Books > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Science Fiction > Space Opera
#63 in Books > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Science Fiction > Adventure

  10. Just pre-ordered the signed edition. Looking forward to putting that on the shelf by my other signed books.

And I’ll echo Larry’s recommendation to read the whole series. I’m most of the way through (just started Contact with Chaos), and have thoroughly enjoyed the storyline. Would love to see it come back around to Freehold at some point.

  11. I can’t believe I never stumbled upon Freehold before! I have been a Heinlein junkie since I read Starship troopers when I was 12. That was 31 years ago. While reading Freehold it is like landing back in a Heinlein book. Thank you!
