MHV #4 bestselling fantasy novel in the country last week

I just got the Nielsen Bookscan numbers for the week ending October 3rd.  Monster Hunter Vendetta was #4 in fantasy, nationwide.  Bookscan works likes the Nielsen TV ratings with a whole bunch of stores, and all of the big chains (except Walmart) reporting numbers weekly.

Holy. Friggin’. Crap.

Uh… Yeah.  Ahem.  Moving on then, lots of good stuff going on here. I’ve been super swamped, so haven’t been posting much blog fodder that hasn’t related directly to the MHV release. Surprisingly, a book release consumes a giant chunk of your time.  There are exciting things afoot.

EDIT: I'm not supposed to know about that certain thing yet...

  1. congrats larry. i’m half way through it now and its awesome. but every page makes me more and more curious to know what franks is. not who, what!!!!???? werewolf….vampire…troll…..IRS paperwork golem…..what is he???

  2. I think it was #1 in several other dimensions. This may have been due to the threat of having a Combat Wombat released in your neighborhood if sales weren’t brisk, but that’s still hearsay at this point.

  3. I’m kinda unhappy it came in on Monday. I already know I am going to lose a night’s sleep reading it, and now have to wait until the weekend…

Congrats on the good stats man, hope it means your Grimnoir stuff gets published much much much… much sooner.

  4. Congrats Larry, it should be #1 but I guess with the down economy, not as many people are buying books that are made of pure AWESOME.

I got word that the Physics Department has been experimenting with inter dimensional travel and there is a possibility that we actually tested the aerodynamics of the Combat Wombat @ the wind tunnel in one of those other dimensions. I’m trying to get them to get some pictures next time they are in that dimension.

  5. Congratulations, Larry – well deserved. I’m reading it now (Z is, um, “escorting” his brother off the concert stage. Yikes!) and really enjoying it.

Looking forward to your future releases!

  6. Congrats! I got my signed copy in the mail today, love the smiley devil face. I gotta say though Larry, you have the laziest signature haha 😛

  7. I loved MHV! I laughed. I cried. I craved calamari.

    I only have two issues:

    1) Chuck Mead is still dead.

    2) Now I have to wait another friggin year for more.

  8. I jonesed through the months waiting for MHV, bought not one but TWO copies so the wife and I wouldn’t have to wait to read it, and now after one day it’s OVER? And I have to wait until 2011 for the next one?

(In best Daffy Duck voice): “You’re… despicable.”

And seriously, Larry, GNOMES? Is nothing sacred? I laughed my a^^ off. Thanks for another great read.

  9. You’re an inspiration, Larry. I’m taking a writing class and will be bringing up your name (again) as an example of how it can and should be done.
