I'll be a special guest at StellerCon 35 in North Carolina

I’ve just been invited to be a special guest at StellerCon 35 in Greensboro, North Carolina, March 2011.  Todd McAffery is the guest of honor. I’ve not read anything from the Pern novels, but my wife is a huge fan, as is my mother-in-law.  I’ve been sworn to bring back many autographs.  Larry Elmore is the artist guest of honor, and I’ve been a fan of his since I had Dragonlance calenders on my walls during my teenage years.

I’ve never been to North Carolina before. This should be fun.

  1. It’s not McAffery. It’s McCaffrey, spelled M-c-C-A-F-F-R-E-Y.

One of the most persistent misspellings in fandom.

Pern is a good read, at least the earlier ones are — that’s everything from DRAGONFLIGHT (1968) to THE DOLPHINS OF PERN (1994). Not much blood’n’guts action, rather a lot of character-based drama, with characters you can care about. More recent Pern novels have kind of slid a bit in quality, in my opinion (and it is only my opinion, purely subjective, worth no more and probably less than I get paid for it, not binding in any way, YMMV, no quality guarantee expressed or implied).

  2. Larry – You’re listed as attending LibertyCon in Chattanooga next month, the Baen Barflies typically make at least one trip to the range during the Con (and do the same at StellarCon). Hope to see you there!

  3. I hope for your sake it’s better organised than it was this year.

I usually do Stellarcon, MACE and recently Concarolina’s in NC but I skipped Stellarcon this year when I got three different invites from three different people to run games, each claiming to “have taken over the gaming chair”.

I’d double check their arrangements mate, it’s mostly student run and lately run has been more of a synonym for bollocksed.
