BOOK BOMB today! Partials by Dan Wells

For those of you new to this, the goal of a Book Bomb is for as many people to buy a book on the same day as possible. We buy them from Amazon because they have an hourly updating sales ranking, and the higher you get in those rankings the more you show up in searches, the more it spreads, the higher it goes. The more people spread the word through their blogs, Facebook, Twitter, and word of mouth, the higher that ranking gets.  By doing it in a one day period, it makes the numbers go even higher. This introduces the author to more new readers, gets their name out there, and helps pay the bills. 🙂

It is that time again. This month’s Book Bomb is for Partials by Dan Wells. You may remember Dan from I Am Not A Serial Killer, Mr. Monster, and I Don’t Want To Kill You. (and L5R fanfiction on this webpage) 🙂 He’s also got another horror novel called Hollow City, but that is out in Europe first. His new series is out this week and the first book is called Partials.

And I want this thing to be a NYT bestseller. Dan is one of the most talented authors I know, not to mention being an all around good guy, and I want him to have huge major success in America. Dan is sort of our David Hasslehoff in that he does well in the US, but he is a huge hit in Germany. I Book Bombed his last novel. This is the same novel that as I got through a gut wrenching twist, I said, out loud, on an airplane, “Damn you, Dan Wells. DAMN YOU!” He’s that good of a writer. 🙂

The reason I picked Dan for this month’s Book Bomb is because he’s a good friend of mine and I want him to kick ass in the ratings. He’s a humble guy who spends a ton of time helping out aspiring writers. The dude volunteers for every conference you can think of and is always there to help the newbies. He is one of the hosts of Writing Excuses, and from what I’ve seen puts way more work into that than he gets out of it in return. I want Partials to make a giant pile of money. Our best Book Bomb ever was the one we did for his brother, Robison, and though I don’t expect to hit that level, either way it will be nice so I can watch the winner tease the other one.

Full disclosure, I’ve started Partials earlier this week but haven’t been able to finish it, because A. Dan didn’t get me an early copy. B. I’m wrapping up the edit on Monster Hunter Legion. C. New Baby. D. I’m getting audited at my day job, which makes for loooong days. But even then I read until I couldn’t keep my eyes open. (and then fifteen minutes later the baby woke up and yelled at us) But the first half is great so far, and the plot is intriguing. Man engineered a race of super soldiers to win a war of attrition… That didn’t work out so well.

Plus, this book has one of the best kick in the face openings I’ve ever read. It doesn’t open with a big explody action scene (that’s kind of my thing) but rather in a hospital, with quiet, sad, heart rending emotion. In the world of Partials, as far as we know almost all of mankind has been wiped out by a bioengineered plague, and no child born has lived for more than three days in the last fifteen years. Mankind is dying.

Partials is listed as a Young Adult book, but honestly don’t let that turn you off. From a writer’s perspective that just means you use younger main characters and have to tone down some of the elements from R to PG-13.

The Howard Leap Year Birthday Sale

I’ve been a fan of Schlock Mercenary for many years. Though we are friends now, I was a fan long before I ever met Howard. I even snuck a flamethrower with an ominous hum into MHI.

I ate dinner with Howard last night. (Rodizo’s all you can eat Brazillian steak house, for the win!) Today is his birthday and he is having a big sale over on his page.

So being his once-every-4-years birthday, I told him I’d stick up a link. You should check out his books. And if you aren’t following his comic, you should. It is awesome.

Yep, chapter 3 is missing

On the Spellbound audiobook a whole bunch of people have contacted me about the fact that chapter 3 seems to be missing. Audible.com is aware and fixing it. I think that they are going to send a message to everyone that got it so far so that they can download it again.
