Quick Mini Painting WiP Pics

Mostly posting so I can host the pics somewhere so that I can post these to the Privateer Press forum for feedback.

I’m trying a new basing experiment. I wanted to make a splash effect. I green stuff and kitty littered a base, painted it, then  cut bits of blister plastic into the splashes and glued them down. Then I brushed it all with Woodland Scenics Realistic Water.

It actually looks nicer in person too, very translucent and shiny, but I think I need to get rounder shapes in the water next time. The hard points make it look more like ice.

Heat gun. Melt until drippy looking, then shape into ballistic curve.

Miniatures are surprisingly difficult to get looking right. That’s why I switched to building real cars. Its easier. 🙂

I do washes, and I’m pretty good with a dry brush, but your pics look like you do some other form of shading altogether. How do you do it? I read a book by John Dallimore of Wargames Foundry, but I couldn’t understand what he was talking about.

It might be worth trying gloss medium, an artists gel, which is like Woodland Scenics water, but thicker. If you go to my modelling website I have a bunch of stuff under terrain building that might help you:
