Warbound’s rough draft is DONE

So I’ve been on a writing/editing sprint for the last month to get this book done in time. My deadline moved up considerably when an opportunity for pretty nifty ARC placement came along. I wrote 60,000 words in a month and got through an editing pass. I spent all day yesterday doing the fabricated chapter quotes.  As of last night, the rough draft of Warbound was out the door.

It will be available in stores everywhere August 2013. The eARC will be out a few months before that from Baen Webscriptions.

All said and done this is the biggest of the three Grimnoir novels. This story is a trilogy, and though there will be more novels set in the Grimnoir universe in different time periods, this actual story is done. That’s the first time I’ve ever had to wrap up a story arc. It was tougher than I thought.

So the two novels that will be out from me this year are Warbound in August and Swords of Exodus in September. I do not know the release date for the novella of Instruments of War, which I wrote for Privateer Press, but it will be out this year too.

  1. Congrats!

I envy you experienced novelists who can finish a rough draft and be 80 or 90% of the way to a final draft (see also Sarah Hoyt’s blog). Further down the learning curve hill, a first draft has a really different meaning, more “here’s a pile of crap out of which a good story MAY perhaps be extracted”. #theres_a_pony_under_there_somewhere 😉

  2. I think in your case Clydesdales may be closer to the mark than pony…really, really like the Grimmnoir story…would be really interested in a novella about the Second Somme…so many teasers, so little meat.

  3. I know you said that the other Grimnoir stories would be prequels. Are there any plans to set other Grimnoir novels in a present day time frame?

    1. Can you imagine inscribing runes into some of the weaponry, or heaven help us, Automobiles, that we have today? Magical Aston Martin for the win!

  4. Super excited for another (last) Grimnoir–I’m just starting “Spellbound”. Is “Swords of Exodus” part of a series or a stand-alone book? I love your writing style. I’ve plowed through everything that’s available on Audible faster than I should have. But it’s all just. too. fantastic.

      1. confirmed- it IS the sequel. 🙂
BTW, Larry left out the part about writing his blog post “An Opinion on Gun Control” and all the media stuff attached to that….

  5. This is off topic, sorry.Big fan, have all your books. Quick question. I believe I remember you using quickstarter to fund the beginning of your table top game. A friend of a friend is trying to do something similar but needs to be able to relay copies of the manual to potential donors. Apparently the only way he sees to do this is sending it in multiple emails. Surely there is an easier way to post it somewhere for download, wondered if you had any suggestions. Thanks, know you are busy.

  6. Great news! Lots of hard work for you, but there are millions of us who appreciate it. Any word on whether Bronson Pincot will do the Audible version?

  7. Wow – nice work! Obviously looking forward to Warbound, but even more so for Swords, so hope you and Mike can have a long sit-down to polish it to a blade-edge sheen…

  8. That’s great news, Larry. Well done! On a personal note, will you change the bio information on your web page to reflect this information? It still shows that Monster Hunter International is due out in September 2012. Don’t mean to nit pick.

  9. Sweet, I can’t wait! I like your Monster Hunter series, but to me Grimnoir is on a whole different level. Hard Magic came out the same year as a handful of highly anticipated sci-fi and fantasy novels (Dances With Dragons, The Wise man’s Fear, The Crippled God, Ghost Story). I read them all but it was Hard Magic that really stood out to me. I’m excited to get the end of the series (and it didn’t even take you twenty years! imagine that).
