Taking requests, I’ve been commissioned to write some short stories.

I’ve been asked by my publisher to write a short story set in the Monster Hunter universe and another set in The Grimnoir Chronicles universe.

So basically, what do you guys want to read about? Give me your opinion on who/what you’d like to see from the world of Monster Hunter. TGC is obviously a little harder since you guys don’t get to read that one until May.

If you are on Facebook, I started a post about this in the new Monster Hunter Nation group. There are already a bunch of really good requests going on over there. So join that if you are interested. And if you are on FB, just go ahead and friend me. It is a useful way to get updates out.

I’ve not done a lot of short fiction, and only one little tidbit from the MH universe. (see Tanya, Princess of the Elves under the Fiction tab).

So Monster Hunter Nation got its one millionth hit this weekend sometime. That’s a pretty cool milestone. Either, one million people have been here, or one of you has opened this page a million times, or some combo inbetween.

How does this make me feel?  Well, if I could paint you a picture, it would look something like this:

How about Conan punching a tyranosaurs in the face while Linnea Quigley (like she looked in the 80s) fights a hot zombie chick with a chainsaw, and Linnea is in a tank top that is all ripped and about to fall off, and they’re on top of a speeding monster truck painted in tiger stripes playing a sound track by Dokken, and the monster truck is jumping over a tank that is exploding and there are ninjas flying everywhere on bullet bikes while pterodactyls shooting laser beams out of their eyes cause a big explosion with a massive fireball and then there’s like tigers with wings shooting out of the ground and theres like this skeleton, but the skeleton is wearing a chainmail bikini so you know that it was like totally a hot chick once too, but then like there’s this dude who looks like a samurai, but he’s fighting a cowboy, and blocking the cowboy’s bullets with his katana, because it is a LASER KATANA!  But then the samurai is totally Chow Yun Fat and the cowboy is Chuck Norris, and Chuck Norris roundhouse kicks the bullets in mid air to make them go faster, and there should be lightning bolts coming out of the sky, and then have like a big laughing skull behind it all, and the skull should totally be Hitler! because then you know he’s the badguy, and he should have that little mustache, and Conan and Chuck Norris are all going to totally kick his ass. And make the pterodactyls red, and put like a hammer and sickle on them, so you know they’re totally evil communist dinosaur clones, and make the monster truck be shooting blue flames out the back from all the nitro and the big tires should have spikes, and like nazi zombies are totally trapped in the spikes! And then have more hot chicks on the side, only make one like a devil with a tail and a pitchfork, and then the other side the hot chick should be an angel, but make her look a little naughty, if you know what I mean. Then make it in 3D! So that everything jumps out at you, and add more explosions, so you’re all like WOOSH KaBLAAAM PoW! POW! POW!

That was a response I posted on www.wethearmed.com a long time ago for ideas for a tough picture. But I feel it sums up my feelings about having a million hits on my blog.

You may now officially refer to me as New York Times Bestselling Author Larry Friggin’ Correia

Looks like I can now make it official:   http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/17/books/bestseller/bestpapermassfiction.html?ref=books

Monster Hunter Vendetta was number 27 on the New York Times Bestseller list. This is awesome. This is actually a really big deal in the publishing business.

I didn’t think I’d hit the NYT anytime soon. It is really hard to make it on there, especially in fantasy. And usually you need to have written several books before you get enough fan momentum to show up at all. It isn’t about total sales, it is about sales velocity, meaning you sold a bunch of books in one week.  Well, once again, I underestimated the Monster Hunter Nation. You guys are absolutely amazing, and you went out and kicked serious butt.

Thank you.

Shout outs!

I don’t know where my camera is, but when I find it, I’ve got to take some pictures for you.

A while back I got an e-mail from somebody asking if I was ever going to make an MHI logo Zippo like I mentioned Earl Harbinger using, and if not, would I mind if they made one for themselves. I said the same thing I always say about the logo, if it is just for your personal use and not to make money, go, use it, and have fun. I just like to get pictures so I can post them on the blog.

But then I got a package yesterday. In it was an MHI engraved logo Zippo!

It is awesome. Turns out it was cheaper to make a few than just one, so they sent one to me.  I love it. It is so cool I might have to go take up smoking or something! (just kidding, Bishop) :p

So thanks Laura, Phillip, and Jake of the St. Louis MHI team. It is much appreciated.

But while talking about pictures, check out this one from Iraq on a Blackhawk door gunner.  Boo Yah! That is tough.

Thanks, Monster Hunter Mesopotamia, A Co. 2-1 GSAB The Wraiths, badasses that rain fire from the sky.

Books & Patches update

I’m sorry, but I suck at getting to the post office, and I’ve been utterly swamped all month. I finally bagged up all the patch and autographed MHI orders for the last month today, only to find out that I was short 7 copies of MHI. I thought I had another box of them, but it was empty. So I ran over to my local B&N, only to find that they were also sold out.

So there are 5 of your waiting for copies of MHI that won’t be going out today. I’ve got more coming. Should be here next week. Everybody else’s order up until yesterday is in the mail today.

I really need an administrative assistant. Maybe I can put one of my kids to work.

EDIT: I’m not supposed to know about that certain thing yet…

EDIT:  Disregard what you read earlier. That was apparently a SECRET sneak peak. Whoops. My bad. I jumped the gun.

There is nothing to see here. No such thing was communicated and I shall not speak of it anymore… until next week. When I totally can talk about it.  :)

MHV #4 bestselling fantasy novel in the country last week

I just got the Nielsen Bookscan numbers for the week ending October 3rd.  Monster Hunter Vendetta was #4 in fantasy, nationwide.  Bookscan works likes the Nielsen TV ratings with a whole bunch of stores, and all of the big chains (except Walmart) reporting numbers weekly.

Holy. Friggin’. Crap.

Uh… Yeah.  Ahem.  Moving on then, lots of good stuff going on here. I’ve been super swamped, so haven’t been posting much blog fodder that hasn’t related directly to the MHV release. Surprisingly, a book release consumes a giant chunk of your time.  There are exciting things afoot.

Arizona Book Signings!

Saturday, October 23rd at the Tempe Marketplace B&N from 1-3 PM.

Sunday, October 24th at the Poison Pen in Scottsdale at 2:00 PM.  This is their Halloween bash and will have 5 authors there.  http://www.poisonedpen.com/event-calendar/correia-larry-1  Signing at the Poison Pen is kind of a big deal. The week before me is Vince Flynn and F. Paul Wilson. These guys pull in the Big Guns.

Emancipated Worlds Chapter 1

More mil-SF goodness from my friend Brad: http://bradrtorgersen.wordpress.com/

He is doing this as a serial. Brad has won Writers of the Future (which is a pretty darn big deal), and has books in at different places (some that I happen to, you know, write books for) So the more he can do to build name awareness, the better.

Brad has also already managed to offend lots of people by being very opinionated politically. For some reason I think that will be right up my reader’s alley. :)   So, other bloggers, if you like Brad’s serial, please spread the word.

Geeky craft request

Okay, weird request. Do any of you happen to have a GI Joe sized (the little GI Joes, not the big Barbie sized) guns laying around? Things that you bought for your kids, but they left them on the carpet for you to step on too many times so you don’t want them any more? Very specifically, I need a Thompson subgun. Preferably a GI style, but a 1928 style will do too.  Also I need a lever action rifle.  Anything that looks like a Marlin or Winchester would be perfectly close enough.

This is super geeky, but inspired by my friends that paint miniatures, all the custom action figure people on the internet (I think Silof is the most impressive), and the fact that all of my family except for me do some sort of geeky crafty thing, I’m trying to build/paint my own custom MHI action figures.  Don’t worry. I’ll put up pictures. (of any that turn out good).

This isn’t business. This is hobby. This is also extremely geeky. But inspired by my friends that paint miniatures (like Howard Tayler and Kirk Pfau) and by pages like http://www.sillof.com/C-Steampunk-ESB.htm I’m going to try and build myself some custom MHI action figures.

I’ve got a few hobbies (shooting, but that is very time intensive), and writing consumes almost all my free time, but I’ve not done anything artisticaly creative in a really long time.  I’ll post pictures of the ones that turn out okay. :)

The Thompson is for Earl. The lever gun is for Sam. Both of those are already shaping up pretty well. I’m actually already very proud of my Gretchen and Skippy.
